Harlingen Veterans is a heartfelt initiative born out of the deep respect and gratitude that the citizens of Harlingen, along with local veterans and Gold Star families, hold for those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
Recognizing the absence of a dedicated monument within our community, these passionate individuals took it upon themselves to create a space where veterans can be honored and remembered for generations to come.
As Harlingen has grown, so has the community’s desire to pay tribute to its rich military heritage. The idea of a Veterans Memorial quickly gained momentum, leading to the formation of the Harlingen Veterans’ Memorial Project Committee.
This dedicated committee worked tirelessly to bring the vision of a local memorial to life, culminating in the dedication of the Harlingen Veterans Memorial on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
Our website serves as a digital extension of the memorial, providing visitors with a comprehensive look at the history, dedication events, and ongoing efforts to honor our veterans.
On Flag Day, June 14th, the 13-star Betsy Ross flag is proudly flown, and on the birthdays of each military branch, their respective service flags are raised in recognition of their contributions.
One of our key initiatives is the VMPC Memorial Pavers program, which offers the public and organizations a meaningful way to honor veterans and first responders. These pavers, made of the highest quality materials and engraved with lasting precision, serve as enduring symbols of the dedication and sacrifices made by these brave individuals.
Whether honoring a loved one from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, or a Purple Heart recipient or POW/MIA, each paver ensures that their legacy will be remembered.
Harlingen Veterans also hosts significant annual events, including our Memorial Day Program, Veterans Day observance, and participation in the Wreaths Across America program, all held at Pendleton Park.
These events are open to the community, and we invite everyone to join us in paying tribute to those who have given so much for our freedom.
