Here’s an overview of the payment schedule for September 2024.
Overview of the Chapter 35 DEA program
The Chapter 35 DEA program provides up to 36 months of education and training benefits to the dependents and spouses of veterans who are either permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or who passed away while on active duty or from a service-related condition.
Eligible beneficiaries can use these benefits to pursue various educational paths, such as college degrees, vocational training, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, and more.
The monthly VA payment amount under Chapter 35 depends on several factors, including the type of educational program you’re enrolled in and your enrollment status (full-time, part-time, etc.).
For example, full-time students at a college or university can receive up to $1,488 per month, while those enrolled in non-college degree programs or on-the-job training programs may receive different amounts based on the number of clock hours or the stage of their training.
If you are enrolled less than full-time, your payment will be prorated based on your course load or clock hours.
For those attending less than half-time, the payment may be further reduced to cover only tuition and fees.
To determine when you’ll receive your VA education benefits in September 2024, check your “Transaction Date” on the WAVE (Web Automated Verification of Enrollment) Certification Transactions page.
The VA typically processes payments on the next business day after your Transaction Date.

For example, if your Transaction Date falls on a Friday, your payment will likely be processed on the following Monday (or the next business day if there is a holiday).
For instance, if your school starts on September 1st and your Transaction Date is September 4th, your payment should be processed on September 5th, assuming it’s a business day.
If September 5th is a weekend or holiday, your payment will be processed on the next business day.
To find out the exact date you’ll receive your VA education benefits for September 2024, check the WAVE system for your Transaction Date and add one business day.
This will provide you with the most accurate estimate of when your funds will be deposited, allowing you to manage your educational expenses with greater confidence.
