The long-awaited Dedication of the new Memorial took place on Sunday, November 11, 2012.   The program of events, photos, and following day newspaper article are at the DEDICATION link.

The City has undertaking substantial improvements to that entire area in the park.  Info at the ABOUT link.

The first order of the engraved pavers was placed in early February, 2012, a second order in August and a third in December, and those are installed on the walkway now.
We will continue to order these engraved pavers every time 100 orders are received.   There is approximately a 12-week lead time to receive and install these, after the order is placed.
We have very nice cards available (gratis) announcing your gift of a paver to family or friends.   Please just ask to have one mailed to you, on your order blank “Comments” area.

The paver forms are available at Ol’D’s Soda Shop (on Jackson Street by the old Rialto Theater), inside the City Secretary’s office at City Hall, the Harlingen Public Library lobby, and JaMar Printing at 925 South 77 Sunshine Strip – or they can be downloaded here at the website.

On Flag Day, 14 June 2013, we decided that an original version of our flag, the 13-star Betsy Ross Flag, would be appropriate.

We also are flying a Branch of Service flag, on their appropriate "birthdays", below the flag on the Memorial. (In the photo, the US Army flag flies, as the Army "birthday" is the same as Flag Day.)

The Veterans' Memorial Project at Pendleton Park was the idea of Harlingen area citizens, veterans and the Gold Star Families (Families of fallen soldiers), who noted that the community did not have it’s own veterans monument. As Harlingen has grown, so has the desire to honor our veterans with a Veterans’ Memorial. With Harlingen’s strong military heritage, the logical course was to pursue the construction of a local memorial. The veterans created a key steering committee and the Harlingen Area Veterans’ Memorial Committee was formed.
